RULES AND REGULATIONS OF PRINCE OSEI-TUTU SKILLS AND ENTREPRENEURIAL COLLEGE (POTSEC)
All students of POTSEC are subject to the following rules and regulations and are expected to comply fully without exception. Non-compliance may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to a formal warning, suspension, or dismissal, as may be determined by the school authorities, disciplinary committee, faculty, or student leadership. No protest or objection shall be entertained from any student who breaches these rules.
MODE OF TUITION
POTSEC’s instructional approach is designed to be highly practical. The structure of tuition is as follows:
• 85% Practical Training
• 15% Theoretical Instruction
Theory sessions will be delivered in written format for students enrolled in formal education tracks, and orally for those in informal and non-formal education programs.
Due to the practical nature of our courses, students are advised to be prepared in terms of mindset, time, and financial commitment to participate in:
• Fieldwork,
• Off-campus practical sessions,
• Extended stays on project or set locations, and
• Project-based assignments required by various instructors.
Completion of course-specific projects is mandatory and contributes to the final evaluation.
HOLIDAYS
1. The College shall observe a break at the end of each trimester to mark the conclusion of academic activities.
2. Additionally, a Mid-Trimester Break will be observed within each trimester.
Note: The specific dates for all breaks and holidays—whether trimester-end, mid-trimester, or otherwise—shall be solely determined by the College Administration. These dates are subject to change at the discretion of the College authorities.
CREDIT HOURS POLICY
1. A student must complete the total credit hours assigned to each course before becoming eligible to sit for End-of-Trimester Examinations or to register for National Examinations.
2. Credit hours will be awarded for participation in various academic activities, including but not limited to:
• Project Work
• Regular Class Attendance
• Educational Trips
• Industrial Attachments and Internships
3. Students will embark on at least one educational trip per academic year to gain industry-relevant experience. These trips may span several days; students are therefore advised to prepare adequately in advance to ensure full participation.
4. Given that our tuition model is 85% practical-based, students must be prepared in terms of time, mindset, and finances to fully engage in all practical components of their respective programs.
EXAMINATIONS
1. Students shall participate in national or external examinations administered by recognized bodies such as CTVET, GES, NVTI, among others, once every academic year.
2. Students enrolled in short-term programs (less than one year) will write internal examinations upon completion of their program and shall return to take the external examination at the end of the academic year.
3. All students are required to undergo mandatory internal assessments, which include:
• Weekly Assessments
• Monthly Assessments
• Mid-Trimester Assessments
• End-of-Trimester Assessments
4. Student assessments shall encompass various performance indicators such as:
• Project Work
• Class Attendance
• Participation in Educational Trips
• Internships and Attachments
5. Internal assessment scores will cumulatively contribute to the student’s final performance in external examinations.
6. Failure to participate in any scheduled internal assessment shall result in disciplinary action, including any of the following:
a. Formal Warning
b. Suspension
c. Dismissal (in cases of repeated non-compliance)
7. A student must achieve a minimum of 60% in cumulative internal assessments to be deemed eligible for external examinations.
8. Any student who scores below 60% will be required to retake the relevant assessment(s) until the minimum threshold is attained. The cost of such reassessments will be borne by the student.
Note: All students are personally responsible for the payment of registration fees associated with external examinations.
USE OF COLLEGE LABORATORY
1. All students shall have equal access to their respective departmental laboratories during official instructional hours.
2. All machines, tools, and equipment within the laboratories are the property of the College, and may be used strictly for academic purposes, as and when required, under supervision.
3. After instructional hours, laboratory access is limited to boarding students. Day students who wish to use the laboratory outside regular hours must submit a formal request to the Principal through the College Lab Prefect for prior approval.
4. No student shall access or utilize any laboratory facility without authorization from a staff member or the College Lab Prefect.
STUDENTS’ REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL (SRC)
1. The College maintains a Students’ Representative Council (SRC), which serves as the official voice of the student body.
2. All enrolled students are automatic members of the SRC and are required to comply with the SRC Constitution and all policies established by student leadership.
3. Students are expected to accord due respect to the SRC and its leadership at all times.
COLLEGE GATHERINGS
1. Attendance at college gatherings, including general church services, is mandatory for all students.
2. Noncompliance may result in sanctions imposed by the College Authorities.
3. Students are strongly encouraged to actively participate in both curricular and co-curricular activities, including educational trips, SRC Week celebrations, elections, church services, group work, and sports.
CONDUCT AND VIOLENCE POLICY
1. Students must promptly report any misunderstandings or conflicts to College Authorities for appropriate resolution.
2. Verbal abuse or physical assault is strictly prohibited and shall result in serious disciplinary sanctions.
3. Any student found inciting hostility or rebellion against another student, student leadership, staff, or College authorities shall face one or more of the following penalties:
• Indefinite Suspension
• Immediate Dismissal
• Referral for legal prosecution in accordance with Ghanaian law
DAMAGE OR UNAUTHORIZED MODIFICATION OF COLLEGE PROPERTY
1. Students are required to treat all College property, including tools and equipment, with care and responsibility. Any damage caused must be fully compensated by the student.
2. Unauthorized modifications of any College property—including furniture, machinery, and installations—are prohibited.
3. Tampering with electrical installations in student rooms or elsewhere on campus is strictly forbidden.
4. Students are financially liable for any loss or damage caused by negligence or misuse.
5. The College Disciplinary Committee will determine appropriate sanctions, which may include payment for repairs/replacement, suspension, or dismissal.
6. Defacing of College property, including unauthorized posting of bills, graffiti, or inscriptions, is strictly prohibited.
ALCOHOL AND DRUNKENNESS POLICY
1. Drunkenness and disorderly conduct on College premises constitute a serious violation of institutional discipline.
2. Habitual intoxication, especially when accompanied by scandalous or disruptive behavior, is considered bringing disrepute to POTSEC.
3. Students must not be under the influence of alcohol during lectures, extracurricular activities, or official College programs.
4. Students in breach of this policy will receive a written warning. Continued violation will result in suspension or other disciplinary actions as recommended by the Disciplinary Committee.
SMOKING POLICY
1. Smoking is strictly prohibited on all parts of the College campus.
2. Violation of this policy will lead to immediate dismissal.
ATTENDANCE AND ABSENTEEISM POLICY
1. Class Attendance is mandatory for all students during their scheduled instructional hours.
2. Students seeking to be absent from class for any reason must formally request permission from the College Authorities at least two (2) days in advance.
3. Any student who absents themselves from class or leaves during instructional hours without permission shall be summoned before the College Disciplinary Committee for appropriate sanctions.
4. Absences due to health conditions must be supported by a credible and verifiable medical report from a recognized healthcare facility.
5. A student who accumulates ten (10) days of unexcused absence within a semester (or four [4] days for Weekend Students), without a valid medical excuse, shall be suspended for the remainder of that semester.
6. A student who is absent from the College for a period exceeding two (2) months without official notice shall be deemed to have voluntarily withdrawn from the institution.
7. Instructors are not obliged to repeat lessons or assessments for students who absent themselves without prior approval.
8. Any student intending to leave the school premises during instructional hours must sign the Movement Book before departure.
COPYRIGHT POLICY
All productions created during the course of study—including but not limited to films, videos, soundtracks, scripts, recordings, and any other intellectual or creative output—shall be the exclusive property of POTSEC, under whose copyright they are protected.
The institution reserves the exclusive right to publish, display, or broadcast any student work at its sole discretion and convenience.
WITHDRAWAL, DISMISSAL, AND REFUND POLICY
1. A student who is dismissed from the College or its residence facilities for disciplinary reasons shall not be entitled to any refund of tuition or other fees paid.
2. Students found guilty of gross misconduct or indiscipline are liable for immediate dismissal from the College.
3. A student who fails to pass a particular semester’s examination after three (3) re-sit attempts, with a cumulative score below 30%, shall be dismissed from their program.
4. Students who voluntarily withdraw or cancel their admission/program after enrollment shall not be eligible for any fee refunds.
GENERAL NOTICE
Students are expected to comply with all established policies and regulations. In addition, the College reserves the right to issue interim by-laws or directives as may be necessary during the academic year. These interim rules shall be binding and enforceable upon publication.
